2 days in Byron

Location: Byron Bay

Accommodation: The Villas of Byron. Villa 21B.

Saturday March 27 th

It was our last morning in Noosa and we all went our separate ways after 10 am checkout: Ali and Brett to visit a friend, Tom to the airport and Matt,Mark, Annabelle and myself to Byron Bay for two nights.

It was a beautiful day for driving, unlike the trip up, and we made it to our next accommodation in 3 1/2 hours. Annabelle had chosen the Byron lodging and it was a most magnificent Villa set back about a 10 min walk from the beach.

We spent the afternoon in the pool before dining on an assortment of delicious BBQ seafood and a salad prepared by Matt and Annabelle. The Twilight markets were on today and run from 4 pm to 9 pm so we set off after dinner to check these out. It was a relatively small gathering of stalls but I did manage to make a purchase of a beautiful aboriginal painting which is going to hang in my new Yoga room. The more interesting part of this outing though was a visit to the local pub where they had live music in the outdoor bear garden style area. It was a great atmosphere and a perfect place for people watching: Annabelle and I realised we had on way to many clothes!

It wasn’t a late night but I was exhausted and tumbled into bed by 9.30 after a most successful and fun day.

Sunday March 28 th

It was another lovely morning and Mark set off for a 6.30 am bike ride but the rest off left the house an hour later for a walk. Matt and Annabelle were more adventurous and headed the 60 min walk up to the Light House whereas I hung around the beach front region. I enjoyed checking out the real estate for options I’d be happy to live in or holiday and did find a nice 3rd floor apartment directly opposite the beach and with a lap pool. It is on Stayz and only $2,400 per night to rent so an absolute bargain. See also in the photo section below. This apartment is cheaper and in just as good a location but does not have the pool.

We all had a dip in the pool once back home and then headed off in one car to Bangalow Markets which are only on once a month (on the 4th Sunday) and so we were lucky, or if you asked Mark, unlucky. The markets are about a 15 min drive from Byron and through pretty and lush rolling hills. The High Street at Bangalow is rather pretty too and worth a visit in it’s own right with the markets being located in the Showground and just a short walk down the High street. We spent about an hour there wondering the stalls and sampling the food and all decided they were much better than Eumundi markets.

We headed home after that for a bit of a rest before venturing out again to browse the shops in Byron village. Then it was home for a swim before getting ready for dinner, our last night together on the part of the trip, at Raes of Wategos.

There is limited parking at Raes so we caught an Uber there and back. We were lucky to score the best table in the dinging part of the restaurant; right at the front with a great view over the beach. It was a lovely meal and great way to finish up our short stay in Byron.

Monday 29th March:

Matt an Annabelle headed off before we rose for their long drive home.Mark and I snuck one last walk in before heading off to Nambucca for our last night stay before heading home.
