Polignano a Mare: Fri Set 2 – Sat Set 3
Friday 2nd September
Our Bari checkout today wasn’t until 10:30 am and so we went for a final walk along the Lungomare. Our cycle tour hosts, Nancy and Damian, picked our group up from Bari train station at 11 am and it seemed we were the only folk from NSW; the rest being from Victoria. Polignano a Mare, a seaside town about 40 minutes drive south of Bari, was the destination for the first stop of the tour. We arrived to the hotel around midday and were able to check into our rooms before heading back to reception area for lunch with the group at 12:30.
After a light lunch of Paninis and water, the riders set off for their first bike ride of the tour and the non riders went to explore Polignano a Mare.
There were two other ladies who were non-riders and so the three of us, and Nancy, headed off in two tuk tuks for the 2km trip into town.
We spent about an hour strolling the streets of the pretty old town and I have now seen the famous cave restaurant with my own eyes! I also have my own photos of one of the most photographed beaches in Puglia.
We walked back to our accommodation via a level and paved coastal path and got back near 4pm. Our dinner departure wasn’t until 6pm and, given it was warm and sunny despite the sea breeze, I headed to the pool to wait for Mark. The one message I had from him was they were stopped on the side of the road eating fresh figs and almonds!
We didn’t have long at the pool as we had to regroup at 6 pm for the walk into town for our first A’qto dinner. It was a lovely evening and boded well for the rest of the week. The one good thing about a mostly Victorian population being on this group was that there was plenty of AFL interest and talk so Mark was in 7th heaven! It was a late night for us as we didn’t get back to our room until 11 pm! Mark and I will struggle if this is the pace we have to maintain 🙂
Departure was set for 8am the following morning and the next stop was the trulli town of Alberobello.
