Accommodation: Rockpool Motor Inn.
This one-week trip to Burleigh Heads was originally planned for 2020 but Covid put an end to that. There was some doubt that we would end up getting away for the rescheduled 2021 trip as well but, by the time our departure date arrived, there were no restrictions and so off we set.
Our breakfast stop was at Raymond Terrace at the River-house cafe. We’d been here once before and it was quite pleasant, with nice views over the river, and so we thought we’d visit again. It was much busier this time around as there was some festival on, one that seemed to have drawn in the whole town, and there was a large band with all members playing bagpipes. All quite surreal but it made for some interesting watching whilst we ate our breakfast.
Our overnight stop, en-route to Burleigh, was at Southwest rocks. Neither of us have been there before and we were pleasantly surprised by the area, especially given some had talked the place down. Our accommodation was at the Rockpool Motor Inn and this was about a 10 minute walk from the beach. It was well reviewed and, although just a basic motel, our room was spotlessly clean and very well appointed. I would definitely recommend this as a destination for a short visit to South West Rocks. We arrived by about 2 pm but the Swans were playing so we spent the first couple of hours in the room with Mark watching the game and me doing some blogging.
We set out to walk to the beach just before sunset and this proved to be rather good timing as we caught the beautiful sunset colours being cast over the rocks, beach and lagoon. There is the surf club right on the beach and we went in for Mark to have a beer and to watch the remainder of the sunset. We were amazed the Club was so sparsely populated as the view from the deck was amazing.
Our dinner was booked for 6 pm back at our motel and this, too, was highly reviewed on Google and so we thought we’d give it a go. The menu read well, and there were great specials on the day and our food was delicious. We enjoyed this so much that we are going back there on our return trip to Sydney in a weeks time!
It had been a long and full day and so we turned in very early in preparation for the drive to Burleigh Heads the next day.
