Bike Ride and Golf Day

Queenstown, New Zealand

Sunday 29th December 2013

Sunday presented us with more spectacular weather. Our morning walk today made way for a bike ride around Lake Wakatipu and out to Queenstown Golf Course. We hired bikes from the hotel for a half day $30 per bike. This was a pretty ride along the edge of the lake and was fairly wide and level. The 15 km trip out to the Golf course took us just over an hour and that included a shirt stop to retrieve Ali’s seat. Yes! The girl who can lose a neck warmer skiing can also lose bike seats mid journey!

The golf course welcomes bike riding visitors and it makes a good rest and revive point. We took our drinks out to the cafe balcony and this afforded pretty views back over to Queenstown. Some para-gliders provided us with some extra viewing entertainment. Mark and Tom booked in for an afternoon round of Golf before we left. The homeward journey was uneventful which, with bike riding, is a good thing.

We had lunch back at the apartment and then the boys set out for golf whilst Ali and I stayed back at the apartment to rest and enjoy the view.

The boys eventually returned and we headed into town for dinner. we settled on Pier 19 as that had been recommended on TripAdvisor. We’d also been there for coffee twice but that didn’t really sway us. Our meal there was probably the best we’d had and I’d recommend this to anyone planning a visit to Queenstown. We had the slow cooked lamb shoulder for the 4 of us and it was magnificent! We were home by 8.30 pm but that suited as we have a big day tomorrow with a long drive to Milford Sound.
