Brisbane to Burleigh Heads

Saturday March 26th

The forecast had been for rain so we were pleasantly surprised to wake to clear skies, albeit being a little cloudy.
We headed out for a walk through the Botanic Gardens and the city before heading back to the hotel pool. We were hoping to have a morning swim and some pool time before heading off to Burleigh Heads. The pool was still closed though, from the night before, but the pool man just happened to be in attendance. He advised us that the pool was closed because a child had pooed in the pool the afternoon before! That did it for Mark; he wasn’t going to have a swim in this pool no matter how much chlorine they added. So, instead, we decided to head back out for another walk and to find somewhere for breakfast. Our strolling took us towards Fortitude Valley as Annabelle and Matt had stayed there recently and we were keen to check out their hotel. It was about a 35 minute walk out and back but we stopped for breakfast at a busy café, Harvey’s Bar and Bistro, at Fortitude Valley just opposite the popular Calile Hotel and apparently we sat in the exact same spot that Matt and Annabelle did just a few days earlier!
On the way out to Fortitude Valley we had walked through the city but we chose the Riverside boardwalk for the return trip. We had a note from the Burleigh apartment people, en route, that our Burleigh apartment was ready and so we decided to head straight back to the hotel and set off for Burleigh before the midday checkout. So, no poo swim for me!

Burleigh Heads

The drive down to Burleigh was an easy 70 min journey and we got into our lovely Boardwalk 3 bedroom apartment (Room 127) by around 1 pm. The apartment was nicely furnished and offered great views towards the south and over Burleigh Heads beach and shops. We settled in a bit before heading out for the Burleigh Pavilion for a late lunch or early dinner; take your pick. We’d been here in May the year before, 2021, and were amazed at how much busier it was this time around. Much like Noosa, the place was heaving with families and loads of glamorous young people out enjoying themselves. We stopped by Woollies Metro for a few supplies but then it was back to the apartment for a night in.
