Day 16: Adelaide Hills

Day 16: Adelaide Hills

Friday 25th February

It was another beautiful sunny morning and no wind which was lovely. Mark headed out for a bike ride and I headed out for my walk. I did both the left and right hand tracks once down on the promenade. I love taking in all the magnificent properties along the waterfront. There are truly some magnificent homes. There’s a sprinkling of you original order homes, just here and there, but by and large most blocks have been redevelop into two, or sometimes five, substantial homes. I would’ve loved to have seen the original street scape of properties before they were all redeveloped.
We all met up at the garden cafe at 8:30 before Matt headed home for a morning of work, Annabelle off for a pedicure and I headed off for a foot massage. A morning of extra indulgence for Annabelle and myself.

We headed out to Hahndorf for lunch after Matt’s work and stopped at The German Arms. Mark was the only one really keen for this experience, and I’m sure it’s because it resurrected memories of past bratwurst travel days in his previous travel life. The pretzel and sausages weren’t as good as my recollections of German fare but at least Mark and Matt enjoyed their steins of beer.
The first winery we visited after lunch was Hahndorf Hill Winery, about 10 minutes out of Hahndorf. They had a nice tasting room looking out over their vineyard and offer wines with more of an Austrian bias. Mark, interestingly, opted to taste a white wine flight but we ended up purchasing a half dozen wines.
The Lane Vineyard was next and was just a few minutes from Hahndorf Hill. The entry to the winery was down a long driveway on the edge of hill and afforded a sweeping views across the rolling hills and vineyard making for a rather grand approach to the tasting rooms. The tasting rooms were no less impressive; this is definitely one winery to add to your Adelaide Hills visit list. Mark kept commenting how the vista out from the winery reminded him of the rolling hills in Tuscany; it is definitely very pretty here!
It was almost 5 pm by the time we finished up at The Lane and so we headed home for a short rest before venturing to the Brighton Hotel for dinner. Tomorrow is our last full day in Seacliff and we all fly home to Sydney on Sunday.
