Day 17: last full day

Day 17: last full day

Saturday 26th February

It was another glorious morning as Matt and Mark set off for their final bike ride of this trip; a 3 hour ride to Mount Lofty. Annabelle and I did the seafront promenade along with, what seemed to be, most of Adelaide! It was Park Run Saturday and the event was heavily supported.

Annabelle and I decided to try a different cafe this morning and headed to The Seller Door in Brighton. We chose this cafe as it was the busiest but a busy Saturday morning may not have been the best time to give this cafe a test run. Annabelle left her Iced Mocha and my coffee, whilst ok, was not nearly as good as the ones served up at the nearby Garden Cafe.

Our first destination for the afternoon was Henley Beach. The boys had spied this area on one of their bike rides and so we headed there to check it out on foot and to have lunch. Henley Beach is closer to the city than Seacliff so it was not surprising to see this area more populated with both shops, cafes and people. Like Seacliff though, there is a seafront promenade lined with lots of beautiful homes. A 3 bedroom 2 bathroom waterfront apartment here will set you back about $1.3 million whereas a non waterfront property in Bondi starts closer to $3 million. Attractive property pricing is not the only appeal of the area though! I have been struck by how green all the suburbs of Adelaide are; many of the streets are heavily tree lined and the properties generally boast substantial well established trees. It is a rather striking and delightful feature of which Adelaide residents can be very proud!
Our Henley Beach lunch stop was at Malobo which was just ok. Their dinner menu held more appeal for some so maybe evening dining might be a better option.
From Henley Beach we headed to Hyde Park. This area is just outside of Adelaide city and was where Annabelle ventured yesterday for her pedicure. She was so impressed by the area she suggested we head back to stroll the area so as to experience the charm for ourselves. King William Road is the main shopping precinct and the surrounding streets have an abundance of beautiful Victorian and Federation homes that are among Adelaide’s most luxurious and expensive. We spent an hour or so strolling King William Road and the boys even managed to find time to stop off for a beer.  It was around 3.30 pm by the time we got going again and we headed home for an afternoon of rest, packing and to enjoy a home cooked meal for our last night in Adelaide.
