Four fabulous days in Adelaide

Adelaide, Australia

Friday Nov 27th

Mark and I caught a midday flight to start our four-night trip to Adelaide for some wine tasting and cricket. Our friends, Gordon and Jude, joined us on this trip but caught a later flight.

We stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Room 1325.

NB: Make sure to ask for a high floor when booking.

Dinner: The Griffins Hotel; right next door to the Crowne Plaza.

Saturday Nov 28th

Mark went on an early bike ride to the Mt Lofty region and I walked the Torrens….something I do every morning when in Adelaide! Gordon and Jude joined us in our room later for brekky and we then set out for our trip to Hahndorf for lunch and to the Adelaide Hills for some wine tasting.

Our first stop though was to the Central Markets within Adelaide itself and we all lamented that Sydney does not have something similar to offer. We left the markets and then navigated our way to Hahndorf and we set our GPS for the local markets as I’d heard a great review that morning about them and how this was the monthly Saturday they were open. Our expectations were not met here though as it was a rather low-key affair, however, the pub lunch did not disappoint at all. Check out the bratwurst in the photos! We then took in a view vineyards before heading back to Adelaide.

Vineyards:

  • Adelaide Hills: Shaw and Smith and Ashton Hills (a Pinot for Gordon!).
  • McLaren Vale: Mollydooker and Samuel’s Gorge.

Dinner: Orana: http://restaurantorana.com/: a fantastic must do dining experience if you’re ever in Adelaide.

Sunday Nov 29th

Mark went on a bike ride and I walked the Torrens….again!
We then had brekky in our room before meeting up with Gordon and Jude for our trip out to the Barossa Valley to do some more wine tasting. Our first stop was Maggie Beer’s Farm which was a great opportunity to taste samples of her produce. I have a delivery making its way from there now, some of which will then makes its way to Hawaii!

Vineyards: Whistler, Seppeltfield and Liebich.

We went back to the pub in Tanunda for lunch as this had been a good choice on our last trip and, the burgers and chips are still very good! On the way back to the hotel we stopped to pick Gordon’s hire bike before heading back for a rest before dinner

Dinner: Eros Ouzeri…only just ok.

Monday Nov 30th

Mark and Gordon went on a bike ride this time and I walked the Torrens….again! We weren’t heading out until later that day and so Mark and I visited the Art Gallery whilst Gordon and Jude did their own sight-seeing. We then met up at 1 pm for a drive out to Glenelg beach and then on to Mt Lofty.

Dinner: Kenji Japanese Restaurant: was great!

Tuesday Dec 1st

Mark and I walked the Torrens and had a lazy morning until heading out to the airport for our 1.45 pm flight home.
