Kata Tjuta day

Thursday 28th April

It was a struggle to get up to the 4:45 am alarm today. With hindsight, I wouldn’t organise two sunrise tours back to back, anywhere, ever again.
This morning’s tour was out to Kata Tjuta, or what some people will remember as being referred to as ‘The Olgas’.
Our first stop was to a sunrise viewing platform where we were able to see both the Kata Tjuta and Uluru catch the beautiful rays of first morning light. It was then back on the bus to head over to the Kata Tjuta. We were doing a 5 km walk up to the second viewing platform.
This was a shorter walk than the previous day but a bit more challenging as the path had more of a gradient and was quite rocky and pebbly and involved a bit of rock scrambling in sections. I was definitely glad I had my hiking boots on and I looked around at some of the poor other people who had come woefully under prepared.
Kata Tjuta is a most spectacular formation being made up of 36 domes of various sized masses of rich, red coloured conglomerate rock. It was lovely to walk through some of these domes (up to Platform 2), and to scramble up a few as well, and there was some sense of achievement at having completed the morning tour.
We got back to the hotel by about midday and headed to the pool for a couple of hours. Mark then headed out to do his cycle around the rock but I stayed by the pool and did some more reading.
It was our last night in Uluru and we planned just to have a casual dinner at the bar beside the restaurant. We couldn’t be bothered dressing up and heading anywhere after our two very active days.
Tomorrow we set off for Kings Canyon where we will be Glamping, however, I don’t think there’s going to be much glamour in the camping.
