NYE

Seminyak, Indonesia

Dec 31st: NYE

Mark and I did our usual morning routine of gym and pool before meeting up with Matt and Annabelle for brekky. It was an overcast morning and so well suited to our morning activity of browsing the shops along Jalan Petinget.

We made a few purchases along the route before reacing up to near the W Hotel where I was starting to feel a bit hangry. Thus, the Patisserie outside the W Hotel was well placed and so in we went. Matt and Annabelle left to do their own thing but Mark and I went on to check out the ‘W’. However Mark, like myself, was not a fan of the architecture or vibe of the place. We much prefer the traditional Balinese style of Seminyak’s Royal Beach of the Intercontinental at Jimbaran Bay.

The afternoon was spent by the pool with a late lunch that proved to be a problem later on for Mark. We set out at 6pm for our NYE dinner at Seminyak’s Merah Putih and encountered a lot of traffic along the way. The taxi fare was negotiated to $10 up from the usual $5 but off we set. Merah Putih offers Indonesia cuisine and they had a set menu for NYE at $70 per head which was much cheaper than most of the other hotels and restaurants. The food was great but sadly Mark had to leave early as he was not feeling well and we suspect it was due to a bad prawn from our room service Nasi Goreng lunch. Matt, Annabelle and I stayed on to finish our meal before heading back to see how Mark was faring. Luckily we had Matt who was able to dose Mark up sufficiently to allow him to get some sleep. Matt and Annabelle went on out to watch the various firework offerings along the beach whilst I stayed with the patient. Mark and I generally don’t do much on NYE but this has to be one of the poorer showings for us.
