Friday 29th April
It was our last morning at Sails in the Desert, Uluru and so we took the opportunity to have a leisurely lie in. This was enthusiastically embraced given that our first two mornings involved wake up alarms set for 5 and 4.45 am respectively.
Mark collected the car next from the hire outlet next door and we set off at around 1030 to head to Kings Canyon resort. This was about a three hour drive and there was very little traffic and not a lot to see along the way other than two camels and a goanna.
I didn’t have very high expectations for our Glamping experience given the resort had rather mixed reviews. However, our Glamping tent (Tent 6) was lovely: it was well appointed and very comfortable.
We didn’t have any plans for the afternoon so we took a stroll around the site to check out where the restaurant and the pool and the local store we located and then just spent the afternoon relaxing in our room.
Sunset drinks started at around 5:30 pm and these were located along a track out from the reception centre and so we set off there at around 6 pm to take in the 6:30 pm sunset. After that we had a dinner booking at the resort restaurant, Carmichael’s, for 7 pm.
The sunset drinks were great. The view was lovely and there was a guy singing and playing the guitar which made for a great atmosphere. We left there at about 630 to head up to Carmichael‘s for dinner and what a shamozzle that was. Too many people and too little food made for one very disappointing evening. It was another what you might call “interactive dining experience”, aka buffet, but the food was very ordinary and there was not enough to go around for all the people who were there. We decided that we would not be going back to Carmichael’s for dinner on our second night, as originally planned. We would spend longer down at the sunset bar, with the great entertainment, and we would order a pizza from the pizza van near Carmichael’s and have this back at our room on the Veranda.
