O’Reilly’s Day

Tuesday 21st May 2021

It was another beautiful sunrise this morning albeit with a little bit of cloud on the horizon just to mix things up a bit. We took a different route for our walk today walking north along the promenade up to the start of Miami beach and back. We also tried a different cafe but this was not much better than yesterday. So, we are trying another one tomorrow.
Our plan for the day was to visit O’Reilly’s which is about a 90 minute drive to the Gold coast hinterland. The road was much narrower and windy and we both remembered it, but it had been about 28 years since our last visit. We did exactly the same things though that we did 28 years ago, we did the treetop walk and had a snack at the cafe. One things for sure, we won’t be coming back in another 28 years.
Something that was different for this trip was that there are now a couple of Wineries along the road up to O’Reilly’s, and one of them is even owned by the O’Reilly’s group. We’d been advised that this is worth a visit so that’s where we headed after we left O’Reilly’s mountain-top area. The O’Reilly’s Vineyard was about an hour’s drive down the road and we stopped there for a wine tasting, A tasting paddle costs $20 so we just chose the one; with a focus on their reds. Needless to say that all I bought was some of their flavored vinegars!
We got back to the apartment by about 3.30 pm and so headed down to the Burleigh Pavilion for a drink before having dinner at home. This is a lovely setting, right on the beach and we agreed to return again.
