Noosa 2025
Sunday 18th May
This was a short break away for Mark and myself and we were staying at On The Beach in Noosa for 5 nights in a one bedroom apartment. We flew to Brisbane where we picked up a car and then drove on to Noosa.
It was 4 pm by the time we arrived in Noosa and found our apartment block. We were in a great location, right on the beach, and our apartment was on the first floor and above a couple of restaurants but the only noise we could hear was that of waves breaking on the beach. Both the bedroom and large terrace fronted directly onto the beach and the apartment had lots of storage, something I rate as a huge plus, so the place was going to be pure bliss for our stay.
Whilst there was no washing machine in the apartment, there were a bank of them downstairs for our use and our room came with daily servicing as well as access to continental breakfast items in the communal lounge area: all things I wasn’t aware of when booking. So our SIL, Brett, will be quite surprised to find that a whole day has passed without us doing any formal washing!
We didn’t dwell long after unpacking our bags though because someone, not myself, made the poor choice of having a salad for lunch and so they were starving. Our first stop was at the surf club to take in more of the beach view and have a drink and we then went for a stroll along Hasting Street to find somewhere for dinner. We ended up at a place we hadn’t been before, Lee Lu, and it was very pleasant. It was relatively quiet, compared to many other dining venues, but our meal was absolutely delicious. My kids will laugh but the food offerings here would be best described as ‘Asian fusion’.
We were rather tired after a long day of travel and so headed back to the apartment to sit on the balcony and take in more of the view and the gentle sound of the waves before a relatively early night.
Monday 19th May
It was cool and overcast morning for our first morning in Noosa but this was excellent weather for walking. We set off on our usual route, out to Dolphin Point via Boiling Pot, and then back to Providore on Hastings for a coffee. We’d found this cafe to be quite good last year and we’re happy to announce that this is still the case.
It may surprise some of you to read this but we had absolutely no plans for our 4 day stay in Noosa, other than a few restaurant bookings that is. As a result, Mark spent some time unpacking Dagwood and then went for a bike ride whilst I went for another walk; this time along the hard sand of the beach. It was still overcast but mild so more perfect walking weather.
Our afternoon was spent taking a loop drive out to Pomona via Eumundi. It was a pretty drive and interesting to see how quiet Eumundi is on a day when the markets are not running. We discovered an interesting fruit brewery, Matso’s, that was enormous and obviously built to cater for the kinds of crowd that market days must deliver to the area. Our only other stop was at Pomona which was another small town with just a few shops and cafes. We chose to grab a bite to eat at the Pomona Bakery and this was rather fortuitous as the pastry used to make the pie and sausage roll we purchased was the most delicious ever. I’ve never been so impressed by the pastry in a pie or sausage roll as I was with these items; so much so that it bears noting! The pastry was rich, buttery and very substantial and almost the more significant part of the pie than the lovely lamb and rosemary filling. I would highly recommend a detour to this bakery if you are ever in the area.
Our dinner reservation for tonight was at Bang Bang where we had dined previously. The setting was lovely but, sadly, the food did not reach a similar standard. Our meal the previous night, at Lee Lu, was much better…. and much cheaper! I was actually a little annoyed at how ordinary the food was and felt like standing up and announcing this fact to all who packed the restaurant as well as to those who were waiting in a queue outside the entry. However, I kept my seat and my silence. We both agreed that we won’t be returning to Bang Bang to dine again but, just maybe, to have an aperitif and enjoy the pretty setting.
