13. Copenhagen

Sun 14th Sept

Our Copenhagen hotel: here and here.

It was almost 3 pm by the time we arrived at our hotel in Copenhagen and found this to be a lovely, large and comfortable space for our one night stay. It was far bigger than what we’d needed and even had a washing machine that our SIL, Brett, may be surprised to learn we didn’t even use!

Our dinner at Vaekst wasn’t until 6.15pm so we filled in the time with a walk down to the Nyhavn area. The walk down Stroget and on to the waterfront area of Nyhavn was very busy and we realised there had been a marathon or similar on in the area that day. The mass of small white paper cups discarded along the street gutters, in a usually spotlessly clean city, was a bit of a giveaway. The whole area was packed and festive and Mark joined in on this with a celebratory beer at one of the canal side eateries. Mark’s one beer cost the equivalent of $21 and he consequently said he won’t complain about anything back in Australia ever again. I’ll hold him to that. We don’t realize how fortunate we all are to live in Australia; for cost of living, lifestyle, climate, geography and even our waste services. Yes….waste services! Hardly any area we had been to on this long journey managed any efficient recycling of household waste.

It was then on to our dinner booking and we were not disappointed. In fact, we found Vaekst to offer an even better dining experience than what we’d enjoyed 12 moths prior. This restaurant is worth traversing the globe to experience. Mark our words. We have already booked in for ext year!

This is the final blog for this 2025 Europe trip as we head home tomorrow via Singapore. We have a lengthy layover but have booked a room for the day at the Crowne Plaza.
