Tue Dec 29th: hang at the beach day
We woke to a beautiful sunny day and Ali headed out for a run whilst Mark and I investigated the beach path heading south from our condo complex. This path skirts along the beach and, in some sections, weaves back through various hotel and condo complexes.
The advice had been that there was a great coffee shop downstairs from our condo and so Mark, Ali and I went down to have the usual morning coffee. Sadly, without Matt and Annabelle though.
The plan for the rest of the day was simple: to do nothing! We’d been on the go for the last three days and we were looking forward to lazing on the beach.
After our coffee we called into to the Activity Room that was located just off the lobby. Sara, the Activities Coordinator for the condo complex, had advised us about the abundance of sea life just off our beach and how this made for great snorkeling which Mark can now testify to. She also advised us that the humpback whales were birthing now and that whale watching trips were well worthwhile. Thus, we booked in for this for 2.30pm tomorrow, following Mark’s morning bike ride.
Mark was taking a 4 hour cycle ride around the island tomorrow and was collecting his bike for this later today. Until then, the four of us enjoyed the beach and, especially, the people watching! One excited girl saw a huge turtle just off where we were sitting and so Mark and Tom went out to see if they could find it. They weren’t quite as lucky but at least saw some rather large and very colourful fish.
The morning at the beach had helped us all to develop a bit of an appetite and so we headed down to Dukes for lunch. Mark and Tom then headed to the Lahaina bike shop to collect Mark’s hire bike and Ali and I walked along to the Westin resort where there was a craft market. I am finally the proud owner of a beautiful piece of aluminium photography that I have coveted for much of this trip.
Mark, Ali and I went back down to the beach and pool in the afternoon and before another BBQ dinner on our balcony.
