Monday 3rd October

Today was our last for London and last for this 6-week trip. Our flight left Heathrow at 9.45 pm so we filled in the last few hours with another walking tour and a bit more shopping. We left our bags in storage at the apartment and headed out just after 9 am for our last wander around the city. The forecast was for cloud, but no rain, so we’d again been lucky; we’d only that one night of rain during our Thames walking tour.

Our first stop was back at our local cafe, The Roasting, for a final visit. They were closing for renovation the next day so we were lucky to be able to have one last coffee here. From the cafe we walked up to Victoria to catch the tube to Monument station where we were picking up our walking tour. We were a bit early so we walked on to check out Leadenhall Market which, being relatively early on a Monday morning, we’re not in full swing at all. So we just took a few photos and then headed back to pick up our 11 am walking tour of ‘Hidden London’. Our guide, Sean, was a lovely older gentleman but he spoke so quickly that, sadly, most of this tour still remains ‘hidden’ from me. However, I did again enjoy strolling past of London that I had never previously walked.

Our tour finished at around 1 pm so we, rather I, decided to head to a different Lululemon from yesterday, this one to Covent Garden. So off we set for the 20 minute walk but, by the time we got to minute 18, a pub loomed before us so we just had to stop ‘for a rest’. That’s what Mark calls all these pub stops; he makes out he’s being considerate of me and giving me a rest but really it’s just to sample a different ale and I go along with the ploy none the less. We did end up getting to Lululemon eventually and I did buy a top. There was still more time to kill after this so we wandered through Covent Markets before getting the tube back to the apartment and heading out to the airport. There was a lot of traffic on the way to the airport and I momentarily lost my phone at security but, otherwise, it was a pretty smooth trip thus far.
