And so it begins: Vancouver Day 1

May 1st

We have finally embarked on our 5 month Round The World trip. You can check out the summary of the full itinerary via this link.

Our flight landed in Vancouver at 7 am and our first stop was to a hotel for a few hours until we could check in at 3 pm to our AirBnB apartment which will be home for the next nine nights.

We headed out for a couple of hours, following a quick shower and change, and our first stop was at Lululemon. I was after a particular bag that’s only available in Canada and the USA and it is now on its way to me. Deborah take note!

We ventured down to Canada Place and to GasTown and, I have to admit, we were fairly underwhelmed. We wondered whether it was a public holiday because there were hardly any people around. I had initially found an apartment for our stay that was located in Gastown and I was mightily pleased that I had moved to one that was closer to Yale Town.

We set off again later to explore Yale Town, and to find somewhere for a late lunch, and were much more encouraged when walking these streets. Yale Town, especially along Hamilton St, has a much better vibe than the other areas we had walked through and I think is would be best described as a cross between Sydney’s King Street Wharf area and Surry Hills. It’s a trendy place with lots of cafes, restaurants, an artisan butcher, plenty of wellness & skin care boutiques and even a brewery and bike shop for Mark.

We stopped off and shared a delicious club sandwich for lunch at the Cactus Club Cafe, where Mark was impressed by the number of interesting beers they had on tap. We also found a nice looking restaurant, Capo & The Spritz, (diagonally across the road from our lunch spot) where we planned to visit for dinner. I had spied cloth napkins on the tables as I walked past and was immediately sold on the venue!

Our Airbnb was just a couple of hundred metres from this area of Yale town, so the apartment was in a great location. It probably isn’t up to the standard that I would’ve hoped for, which is disappointing because we are here for nine days, but that’s just a first world problem so I’m keeping it all in perspective.

We were exhausted after our long day so went back out at 5:30 for a visit to Yale Town Brewing before our dinner at Capo.
