Accommodation: RuRu Retreat on AirBnB
Sun 8th Feb
Our flight from Auckland to Queenstown was uneventful and we met up with Colleen and David at the airport and just before our 3pm check in at our AirBnB. It was the most spectacular weather for our arrival, with clear blue skies and sunshine, and we were even more appreciative given the forecast for the rest of our stay was less favourable. The 2-bedroom house for our 6 night stay was quite modern, very clean, had a large living area with a large viewing deck, complete with BBQ and hot tub, and offered great views out over Lake Wakatipu.
We spent the afternoon settling in to our accommodation, and the boys assembled their bikes, before we headed for the 10 min walk into Queenstown. The walk in to town was downhill meaning that the walk back was uphill. Our first stop was for a drink at Poge Mahones and then we had dinner at Blue Kanu. The food was tasty but the restaurant was loud and rather frenetic so not a place I’d return to or recommend. We ambled home with just one stop along the way for some ice cream. It was quite surreal to experience near broad daylight at 9 pm but this enabled some good photo stops along the way. Tomorrow we plan to spend the morning taking the Queenstown gondola up to the luge and then have a shot-over jet experience in the afternoon.
