15 Milan

Thurs 18th June – Fri 19th June

Accommodation: Montenapoleone Suites

Thurs 18th June

The drive down from the top of Lake Garda to Milan offered some spectacular scenery along the way but it was a narrow road for much of the way and very busy with traffic so it was quite a challenging drive for the drivers.

It was 3.30 pm by the time we got to our accommodation in Milan and then we found the offered parking was offsite and involved further driving which was a tad annoying. We had been led to believe the parking was next door. Our rooms were nice though and of a good size so it was fine for our short stay in Milan. Mark and I had to checkout at 5.30 am the next morning but Coll and David had more time as they had an evening flight.

We ventured out of our hotel at around 5 pm and we struck by how hot it was, how busy the Milan was and how expensive the city had become. An Aperol spritz anywhere near the Duomo was €20! We also wondered how cities like this would cope in high summer as it was still in the early 30s at 7 pm. Places would soon become uninhabitable.

We eventually found a bar with €10 drinks and a place to dine that had a/c so we were happily accommodated for the evening. I do think if we have to overnight near Milan airport ever again I’d stay out near the airport though.
