Newcastle is just a short, two hour drive from Sydney and well worth a visit. There is a fantastic coastal walk, a beach within a 5 minute walk of the CBD and great pubs, cafes and restaurants. Not to mention Mark’s favourite: a craft beer joint with 21 craft beer’s on tap! It’s just a short trip from the Hunter Valley too so maybe include this in the loop if you’re ever off to the vineyards! This short post lists some venues and accommodation we like in the area.
Accommodation:
The Grand Hotel Newcastle: lovely large modern hotel room with a large west-facing balcony. The hotel is close to cafes, bars, restaurants and the beach. We stayed in Room 6 on the first floor (16 on website for booking).
AirBnB:
Spacious Beachfront Apartment: this is a great one bedroom beachfront apartment where we stayed previously.
I like the look of this AirBnB too as in a similar area. Hotel 77
Craft Beer Place:
The Grain Store is well worth a visit. We’ve enjoyed this twice now!
Dining:
Bocados: a great Spanish restaurant but you need to book well in advance as very popular!
Reserve: a lovely wine bar and restaurant set in the old Reserve Bank, hence the name. We sat at a table beside the old vault!
Bolton Street Pantry: a great place for brekky and just a few steps from The Grand Hotel:
